Luca Pulina is Full Professor of Computer Science at the University of Sassari, Italy, and Director of the Artificial Intelligence and formal METhods Laboratory (AIMet Lab). He received his Ph.D. in Robotics from the University of Genoa in 2009.
His research lies at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, Automated Reasoning, Formal Methods, and Knowledge Representation and Reasoning. His work has addressed formal verification of neural networks and learning-enabled systems, quantified Boolean reasoning, Answer Set Programming, cyber-physical systems, requirements verification, ontologies and semantic technologies, and, more recently, trustworthy and hybrid AI, decision-support systems, digital twins, and AI-driven analysis of territorial and cultural data.
He has contributed to the development of several research software tools and experimental frameworks for automated reasoning, neural-network verification, semantic data integration, and knowledge-driven decision support. His research has been carried out in the context of numerous European, national, and regional research projects, in which he has served as scientific coordinator, principal investigator, or leader of the University of Sassari research unit.
He has authored or co-authored more than one hundred peer-reviewed scientific publications in international journals, conferences, and workshops. He has served as program committee member, reviewer, chair, and organiser for several international scientific events, and has contributed to the organisation of international competitions and benchmarking activities in automated reasoning.
His current research focuses particularly on trustworthy and verifiable AI, neuro-symbolic and knowledge-driven systems, formal reasoning for decision support, and the integration of AI with digital representations of complex physical and socio-territorial systems.
